Retail real estate company Simon broke ground Thursday on Gloucester Premium Outlets in Gloucester Township, a multimillion-dollar retail project that will create hundreds of jobs in the region.

Simon said in a news release that the outlets will have more than 80 retailers offering designer and name brands at a discount when it opens in the summer of 2015.

It added that the project will create 300 to 500 construction jobs during the building process and more than 800 full-time and part-time retail jobs when it is completed.

"We are excited to officially begin development on Gloucester Premium Outlets and would like to thank Gloucester Township and its residents for their tremendous support of this project," Mark Silvestri, chief operating officer for Simon Premium Outlets, said in the release. "We expect that Gloucester Premium Outlets will be a catalyst for economic growth and vitality for Gloucester Township and the surrounding area.”

The outlet mall is a joint venture between Simon and PREIT-Rubin Inc., with Simon serving as the developer and manager. It will be located at Robert Kelly Drive and Cooper Road in the township’s Blackwood section.
