A Mahwah-based specialty retailer announced Monday that its chief financial officer is leaving for another company, and that a search is underway for his replacement.

Ascena Retail Group Inc., which operates women’s and “tween” girls’ apparel stores, said in a news release that Dirk Montgomery, executive vice president and CFO since January 2013, would be leaving at the end of the summer for a health care company in Florida.

“Dirk is a talented executive and, as much as we are disappointed to lose him, we understand the personal decision he has made to be closer to his family,” David Jaffe, president and CEO, said in a statement.

Ascena said in the release that a search for Montgomery’s replacement has been initiated.
