Mars Co. has appointed Debra Sandler to the newly created position of chief health and well-being officer. The creation of the position illustrates the trend toward more health-conscious packaged food goods in recent years.
Grant Reid, co-president of Mars, issued a statement to this effect:
“When we reorganized into our business segments in 2008, we concentrated our health and wellness efforts within those segments to address the diversity of our product portfolios in chocolate, pet care, food, Wrigley, drinks and Mars Symbioscience,” Reid said. “This newly created role will help accelerate that progress by creating a comprehensive cross-segment strategy that will drive change across our businesses.”
Sandler joined Mars in 2009 as chief consumer officer. In 2012, she was made president of Chocolate North America, which is headquartered to Hackettstown.
The appointment transfers Sandler from a regional position to a global one.
Tracey Massey, chief financial officer of Mars Global Chocolate, has been appointed to Sandler’s old position as acting president.
