After 40 years at its previous location in Summit, the second-generation family-run Smythe Volvo has relocated to a new site on River Road to make it the largest Volvo dealership now open in the United States.

The 46,000-square-foot establishment features a larger waiting area, indoor service drive, a full indoor pre-owned showroom, and more cars on display.

Smythe Volvo also installed a solar roof over its parking garage to cut back on electricity use and reduce the business’s carbon footprint.

“At Smythe, we are a family-run business since 1966, and we treat every customer like a member of our family when they walk through our doors,” said Kevin Flanagan, President of Smythe Volvo.

“We relocated first and foremost for our employees, to give them the space needed to do their job more efficiently, and secondly, we did it in appreciation of our customers.”

Flanagan said that since the new dealership opened on Memorial Day, Smythe Volvo has seen better floor traffic due to the increase in visible space and exposure.

Grand opening celebrations will officially take place Tuesday evening at the dealership, starting at 6:30 p.m.

A number of Volvo executives will be present, including Hakan Samuelsson, president and CEO, Volvo Car Group, and Tony Nicolosi, president and CEO of Volvo Cars of North America.

In addition to entertainment, food and beverage service, guests will be able to view a retrospective of original makes and models throughout the century.

Though Volvo is headquartered in Sweden, Volvo Cars of North America is headquartered in Rockleigh.
