New Century Transportation, a Mount Holly-based small-cargo trucking line, has filed to liquidate in New Jersey.

The less-than-truckload and truckload carrier that operates 816 tractors and nearly 1,900 trailers filed a Chapter 7 petition June 11 in Trenton.

The petition will automatically appoint a trustee to shut down the business.

Although the carrier filed for bankruptcy with shipments already in progress, Catherine E. Youngman, trustee, filed papers asking for it to continue limited operations through Aug. 15.

Youngman also stated that the company intends to pay all wages earned before bankruptcy, according to Bloomberg.
