The New Jersey Business and Industry Association on Friday honored a Danish health care company with its 2014 New Good Neighbor Award for its U.S. headquarters in Plainsboro.

Novo Nordisk Inc. received the award because of its Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design Silver certified facility and its economic benefit, architectural merit and community involvement.

"At Novo Nordisk, we believe in order to do what is good for the patient, we must do what is good for the world," Jesper Hoiland, president, Novo Nordisk, said in a news release. "Being environmentally and socially responsible are at the core of who we are and guide the decisions we make each day to bring about change for patients."

The company opened the building in April 2013 as part of a $225 million redevelopment project. The campus is powered by renewable energy and the construction work was responsible for more than 500 union jobs.

The company was nominated for the award by Plainsboro Mayor Peter Cantu. Novo Nordisk’s U.S. headquarters have been located in New Jersey since 1982.
