Second Garden State Discovery Museum to open

By ,

The Garden State Discovery Museum announced Thursday that it plans to open a second location, in Atlantic City's Claridge Hotel at Park Place, in May 2015.

The museum will be located on the second floor of the hotel and will feature a “Boardwalk Empire” theme with exhibits from the 1920s era that will bring history to life for children.

The museum will have its own boardwalk featuring iconic 1920s-style businesses and attractions such as a penny arcade, an ice cream shop, a vintage toy shop and taffy pulling.  There will also be a beach offering opportunities to look at sea creatures, lounge around and enjoy the sun. Families and little ones will be able to learn about Miss America, ride a hot air balloon and slide down the trunk of a Lucy the Elephant replica, among other attractions.

"The Garden State Discovery Museum has been celebrating imagination through hands-on fun for 20 years now in South Jersey,” Museum Director Kelly Lyons said in a statement. “We are very excited about this opportunity to bring family entertainment to Atlantic City and be really accessible to all the Shore Points. We truly loved the idea of capturing the nostalgia of times gone past and bring our special kind of whimsy and magic into this good old fashioned fun world.”

The first Garden State Discovery Museum opened in Cherry Hill in 1994.
