Three companies from New Jersey made the 50 Fastest Growing Women-Owned/Led Companies list by the Women Presidents' Organization.
The seventh edition of the annual global list included companies that generated $4.9 billion in 2013 revenue and collectively employed 22,000. The revenue increased 53 percent from last year.
“The companies that made it onto our list this year reflect the continued resourcefulness of women-led businesses,” WPO President and Founder Marsha Firestone said. “We saw production soaring, with an average revenue growth of 203 percent from 2009 to 2013.
“Not only is the financial growth of these companies impressive, it shows that women entrepreneurs are making inroads in non-traditional businesses, such as information technology and transportation. The growth of these women-led companies is particularly impressive as the world economic recovery struggles to gain traction. Privately held U.S. companies on average ended 2013 with annual sales growth of 5.4 percent, the slowest rate of sales growth since 2009.”
One Horn, which was No. 49 a year ago, was thrilled to see its jump on the list.
Having just entered its tenth year in business, One Horn’s reinvention in 2010 — from a trucking company owning tractor-trailers to a freight agent-based transportation brokerage — has enabled the company to continue on its strong growth trajectory.
Freight agents come to One Horn with a book of business and perform the sales function as well as subcontracting their customers’ loads to outside trucking companies. One Horn provides all the financing, proprietary software and back office services, leveraging the strengths of its founders, Cheryl Biron and Louis Biron.
“We are very excited our freight agent strategy has enabled One Horn to move up in the ranking while building a company that empowers our freight agents and employees to pursue their dreams in life,” Cheryl Biron, the president and CEO, said.
