The New Jersey Business & Industry Association announced Thursday afternoon that its president, Phil Kirschner, will be retiring from his post effective Aug. 1.
Effective immediately, senior vice president Melanie Willoughby will serve as acting president until Kirschner's permanent replacement is found.
An email sent out by the NJBIA announcing the news indicated that Kirschner "will be available to assist NJBIA during this period of transition."
The NJBIA, which thanked Kirschner in the email for his "many distinguished years of fine service," declined to comment further on the announcement.
Kirschner has been with the NJBIA in different capacities since 1990, later becoming its ninth president in 2005.
Prior to joining NJBIA, Kirschner served as director of government affairs for the state School Boards Association and executive director of the New Jersey State Bar Association.
Kirschner came in at No. 92 on this year's NJBIZ Power 100 list.
