And the safest town in New Jersey is...

By ,

When it comes to business, the most important part is the customer base. Or, put more humanly, people. Preferably, you want lots of them, happy to go out and happy to spend money.

Home security industry news website SafeWise reported Monday its list of the 50 safest communities in New Jersey, ranking towns with populations of 15,000 or more, based on data from 2011, the most recent numbers available.

When you think about it, it's kind of a strange list for a security website to put out, especially one that focuses on helping its visitors find the best home security system for their needs.

They ran the numbers, so we'll send you their site for the rest of the list at the end of this post, but it's worth mentioning the number 1 spot, taken by Mahwah Township. The Bergen County municipality tops the list with zero murders, rapes, robberies or arsons in all of 2011.

That does sound pretty safe, but SafeWise reports that just in case something does happen in Mahwah, the police have an app for that. Mahwah Stay Connected is available for iOS devices in the App Store, and while it's not the best-looking app in the world, it's a brilliant way to help citizens keep the police informed.

So there you have it, congratulations, Mahwah residents, on living in the safest town in the state (at least as of 2011). The rest of you can visit the SafeWise site and see if your town made the list.
