Wells Fargo announced Wednesday Fred Bertoldo has been named the new regional president for Northern New Jersey. He will lead 2,100 Wells Fargo team members in 10 counties.

Bertoldo will be replacing Lucia DiNapoli Gibbons who in November was promoted to head the Eastern Business Banking Group.

Bertoldo is a 23-year veteran banker who most recently served as Wells Fargo's regional president for retail and business banking in Wisconsin, Michigan and Chicago. Prior to that, he was Wells Fargo regional president for San Jose, Calif.

"This is an exciting time as the New Jersey economy continues to improve and people and businesses are focused on their finances," Bertoldo said.

"I think that overall you are starting to see a more positive emotional sentiment about the economy in general. As businesses have more confidence, they employ more people and they take on more work and projects that they may have held off pursuing. I think we are starting to see that build," he said, seeing loan demand increasing dramatically.

Well Fargo is among the largest banks in the nation, but Bertoldo said "A key focus of mine is be to be seen as northern New Jersey's community bank, by having that personal attention and understanding of every single customer and having the bandwidth to be able to provide solutions to meet any degree of complexity that exists. And I think that is unique."

"Throughout his career, Fred has been an advocate and ambassador for the communities where he has worked," said Michelle Lee, Wells Fargo's Northeast regional president. "I'm excited to have Fred bring his industry and leadership expertise to our Northern New Jersey region."

Bertoldo began his career with Wells Fargo as a business banker and branch manager in San Jose. He is active in the community and currently sits on the boards of the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce and the Milwaukee Local Initiatives Support Corporation.

Bertoldo has a bachelor's degree in finance from the University of Arizona and is moving from Wisconsin to New Jersey with his wife and their two children.

As a life-long Yankees fan, Bertoldo said he is drawn to the state's "very fast paced, progressive and innovative" business climate.
