"A Christmas Story," released in 1983, tops the list of the 10 most beloved Christmas movies of all time, according to Ranker.com - (Facebook)

The best Christmas movie ever? That's a tough call. And one that depends on how you count the votes — by popular demand or by pocketbook.

With that, we present two lists to enjoy or even debate.

The 10 best Christmas movies (by ticket sales). The list is courtesy of Boxofficemojo.com:

10. Christmas with the Kranks (2004): $73.7 million
9. Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993): $75 million
8. The Santa Claus 3 (2006): $84.5 million
7. Four Christmases (2008): $120.1 million
6. A Christmas Carol (2009): $137.8 million
5. The Santa Claus 2 (2002): $139.2 million

2. The Polar Express (2004): $183.3 million
1. How the Grinch Stole Christmas/Jim Carrey version (2000): $260 million

Of course we all know, popular at the box office doesn't guarantee a lifelong place in pop culture. With that in mind, we give you the top 10 fan favorites, according to Ranker.com.

10. Miracle on 34th Street (1947)
9. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964)
8. Scrooged (1988)
7. Elf (2003)
6. How the Grinch Stole Christmas!/animated version (1966)
5. A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965)
4. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989)
3. Home Alone (1990)
2. It's a Wonderful Life (1946)
1. A Christmas Story (1983)

In case you're wondering, "A Christmas Story" did just $19.2 million at the box office though we're guessing it got at least 19.2 million views this December alone.
