Tickets are on sale for the NFL's Super Bowl media day at the Prudential Center in Newark, one of the highest-profile companion events New Jersey will host in the week leading up to the Feb. 2 game at MetLife Stadium.

The cost to watch other people talk to the players and coaches? $28.50.

A ticket will give a limited number of spectators from the public a chance to be around thousands of media members and NFL personnel on Jan. 28, the NFL and the Prudential Center announced. Tickets went on sale through

Media day, which opens its doors at 9:30 a.m., is being held for the first time at a venue that's different from the site of the game, in what is the first official public gathering before the event. Fans will not have access to players, but be allowed to sit in the stands of the 17,000-seat Prudential Center and watch reporters interview members of the participating Super Bowl teams.

Tourism officials around Newark are hoping to capitalize on the event as a chance to showcase the state's largest city to thousands of out-of-towners. The New Jersey Devils' home arena had something of a warm-up in late June, when it hosted the NHL Draft.
