About: Jay Gould took the top job at American Standard Brands in early 2012 in the midst of a liquidity crisis at the plumbing products company. Over the next year, Gould brought the company back from the brink, thanks to initiatives that engaged employees and boosted revenue. Among them was Flush For Good, a campaign to increase awareness of and alleviate challenges to ensuring clean water for people around the world.
First Job: “I made $1.72 per hour for washing dishes and cleaning the kitchen at a Ponderosa Steakhouse. I certainly learned the power of hard work, of teamwork and of ‘moving up the food chain.’ I did make it to head cook before the lucrative world of plumbing called me away.”
Greatest Challenge: “Undoubtedly, saving and transforming American Standard. In less than 24 months, American Standard Brands has transformed into a purpose-driven organization where all stakeholders, particularly employees, are making a real difference in the world.”
