After Superstorm Sandy, companies in New Jersey were looking to get back on their feet. They also were looking for advice on how to stay there.

FiTech Consultants has had much to offer. During the storm, the firm ensured its clients' data was safe. Then, it developed cloud-based tools that, in the future, will allow clients to continue operating during a prolonged outage. Using FiTech's system, clients can access their Windows desktops from any device at any location.

The tools build on FiTech's 10-plus years of innovation. Founded in 2001, the company provides a set of technology products and services, with a focus on the real estate industry. Growth has been especially strong since 2008, with the firm doubling revenue each year and adding clients at a steady clip.

It's not so much the technology, however, as the company's advice that earns attention.

FiTech works closely with CPA s, auditors and in-house staff to understand and map out a business's operations and the roles played by its people. Only then does FiTech recommend and implement the right technology. For example, FiTech installed a system for one client that eliminated potentially confusing information about sales leads.

Local government also has been a beneficiary of the firm's expertise. Starting in 2012, FiTech has devoted time on a pro bono basis to Montville Township, where the company had been based before moving to Fairfield. The company carried out an IT audit of all systems and facilities, including the town hall and police station, to understand the town's infrastructure and identify areas for improvement.

In addition, the company created an internship program three years ago for students at Rutgers University and Caldwell College. Under the program, students work directly with FiTech consultants on client projects.

In addition to its New Jersey location, FiTech has an office in New York City.
