Elected in May and sworn-in on July 1, Steven Fulop is Jersey City's 49th mayor. He is an Edison native.
We asked him his three biggest priorities as mayor in the coming year?
Continue developing a comprehensive youth initiative: Finding summer jobs for teens already has been big in Jersey City. The "Stop the Drop" anti-littering campaign, for example, employed 100 teens to go out and pick up trash.
Become a leader in job creation: Advancing partnerships between the public and private sectors is a good start. The recently introduced Garden State Film and Digital Media Jobs Act, which offers expanded tax incentives for the industry, will help Jersey City.
Create a cultural hub: In addition to the film and digital production incentives, we want to further develop other arts-based initiatives such as the citywide mural program, which was unveiled in September.
