Travelers at Trenton-Mercer Airport in Ewing will soon have two additional destinations to choose from after Frontier Airlines announced Wednesday that it would be expanding nonstop service from the airport to Cincinnati and Charlotte.

Frontier is the lone commercial airline scheduling passenger service out of the 84-year old, Mercer County-owned airport. The addition of Cincinnati and Charlotte gives Frontier a total of 11 nonstop destinations offered from the airport, joining Atlanta, Chicago, Columbus, Detroit, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Orlando, Raleigh and Tampa.

"This is a great day for consumers as we bring two new low-fare options to the Trenton/Princeton area, providing a time and money saving option even more customers throughout the region," Frontier senior vice president Daniel Shurz said in a statement.

Beginning Feb. 12, roundtrip flights to Cincinnati will be offered on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays while roundtrips to Charlotte will be scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

Currently closed due to construction, the airport is scheduled to reopen on Nov. 8. In his statement, Shurz promoted the airport as a cheaper, more comfortable alternative to some of the region's larger hubs.

"Customers who fly from Trenton-Mercer Airport can enjoy a newly upgraded airport with fewer hassles and convenient parking compared with other airports in the region," Shurz said.

Mercer County executive Brian Hughes said the addition of the two new destinations strengthened the network for travelers in the area.

"As we gear up for the grand reopening of an improved Trenton-Mercer Airport on Nov. 8, we eagerly welcome back Frontier, its loyal customers and all those who are excited to fly Frontier at Trenton-Mercer," Hughes said in a statement.
