In the span of four hours last night, I drove from Somerset to Basking Ridge to Iselin and then back home. Why you ask? Because duty — and by duty I mean the opportunity to meet inspiring, awesome women in business — called.
Executive Women of New Jersey was hosting its scholarship dinner, honoring young female graduate students in the state — several of whom have appeared on this blog in the past few weeks.
At the same time, the women who have been honored among NJBIZ's Best 50 Women in Business over the years held a reunion.
It was a beautiful glimpse at the spectrum of female talent in the state: I started my evening at the EWNJ dinner, surrounding myself with aspiring OBGYNs and biologists and language experts and scientists.
Then I drove over to the reunion and listened to incredible stories from women who were the first to do so many things I take for granted — simple things such as sitting in a business meeting while seven months pregnant. (Really, one woman introduced her employers to that concept at one point in her career.)
I gave them all my business card and collected as many of theirs as I could, and I'm very much looking forward to sharing as many of their stories as possible in the pages of this blog. What I heard from everyone — both the ones just starting out and those firmly established in their careers — inspired me, and I want them to inspire you, too.
