Datapipe acquires startup in Israel as it looks to grow globally

By ,

Jersey City IT services firm Datapipe has acquired Tel Aviv startup Newvem in a deal expected to expand cloud-based offerings capabilities for its customers.

Datapipe said the acquisition adds to its managed IT services with an innovative cloud optimization platform pioneered by Newvem.

Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Newvem specializes in cloud usage analytics, including the ability to monitor Amazon Web Services — the cloud computing business unit for the online retailer — on behalf of its clients.

Ed Lazynski, Datapipe senior voice president of cloud strategy and architecture, said the acquisition improves the company's services while gaining access to more customers.

"This gives us tools that our customers — whether it be CFOs or developers — need to govern their clouds in the most secure and efficient way," Lazynski said. "This rounds out our offerings."

Lazynski said the two companies have partnered on projects for about a year. He said the quality of Newvem's team of engineers and developers impressed Datapipe, culminating in the acquisition.

About 20 Newvem employees will remain based in Tel Aviv, as part of Datapipe, which is expanding its global footprint. Datapipe said the acquisition also provides it with a creative and experienced team of cloud development and business professionals.

"Tel Aviv is a great place to have developers and engineers," Lazynski said.

Datapipe provides services and infrastructure for outsourced information technology and cloud computing. The company has about $150 million in annual revenue and employs about 210 in New Jersey. That includes Jersey City headquarters plus a data center in Somerset County. Datapipe employs about 400 worldwide.
