Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey announced Thursday that Dr. Mark Calderon will assume the position of vice president and chief medical officer of its wholly owned subsidiary, Horizon NJ Health, the state's largest Medicaid and NJFamilyCare managed health care organization.

Most recently, Calderon served as the executive medical director of quality management for Horizon. In this position, he administered and provided clinical direction and leadership to Horizon's continuous quality improvement program in the commercial and Medicare market.

According to the announcement, Calderon replaces Dr. Philip Bonaparte, who served as vice president and chief medical officer beginning in 2002.
