Breaking Glass: A blog about – and for – women in business in New Jersey.

The idea came about as our editorial staff was putting together a special section on women in business. As the lead reporter for the series, my inbox was flooded with news about women winning awards and buying companies and rising to the top of industries – many of which were traditionally dominated by men. It was more information than we could ever cram into the pages of our paper, so we decided to start a blog on the subject, giving ourselves unlimited room to explore what women in business in the state of New Jersey are doing. With that, Breaking Glass was born.

Breaking Glass will delve into issues central to women in the business world. The unique challenges and obstacles women face. There will be profiles and in-depth features about women in business – and the businesses they run. About their successes and their failures. Any business executive can tell you they learn from both. Breaking Glass also will be a forum for highlighting awards and honors and personal stories, as well as events and workshops from around New Jersey.

I wish I could say that I know New Jersey business inside and out, but I'm a relative newcomer to the state. I moved here from Manhattan in March, shortly after my son was born. Now, he's a giggly, wobbly, not-quite-crawling 7-month-old. I can't promise I will always post to the blog after a full night's sleep, but something tells me the women out there reading will understand.
