Morristown Medical Center was named the Hospital of the Year by NJBIZ at the seventh annual Healthcare Heroes awards ceremony this morning.

The Hospital of the Year award was one of 11 honors presented at The Palace at Somerset Park, in the Somerset section of Franklin.

Dr. Marianne Holler, a physician at Samaritan Healthcare and Hospice in Marlton, was named Physician of the Year, while Teresa De Peralta, coordinator of the transitional care program at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, in New Brunswick, was named Nurse of the Year.

The winners were selected by a panel of five judges after nominations were sent to NJBIZ. Each of the categories had up to eight finalists.

Additional individual winners include:

– Education Hero: Laura McKirdy, trustee of the Lake Drive Foundation for Children who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing, in Far Hills.

– Innovation Hero: Robert Miller, executive director of AT&T Labs Research, in Florham Park.

– Volunteer Heroes: Erika Rech and Michael Ruane, co-founders and co-presidents of Breast Intentions, in Middletown.

Additional organizational winners include:

– Corporate Achievement Hero: Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, in New Brunswick.

– Education Hero: Korean Medical Program of Holy Name Medical Center, in Teaneck.

– Innovation Hero: Bio-Reference Laboratories Inc., of Elmwood Park.

– Assisted Living Facility of the Year: Franciscan Oaks, in Denville.

– Rehabilitation Center of the Year: JAG Physical Therapy, in West Orange.
