Business leaders will get to hear first-hand tonight from the two candidates squaring off in November’s gubernatorial election.
Republican Gov. Chris Christie and his Democratic challenger, state Sen. Barbara Buono, are each scheduled to speak tonight at the New Jersey Business and Industry Association’s Employer Legislative Committee State Dinner. The event begins at 6 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency in Princeton. It’s the first joint appearance for Buono and Christie since each officially won their party’s nomination last week.
The Employer Legislative Committee brings together business people, legislators and other officials to discuss the state’s economy. The two candidates are expected to speak between 7:30 and 8:30.
Meanwhile, Buono earned the endorsement this morning of the New Jersey State AFL-CIO, which called her “the only candidate who understands that in order to grow our economy we need to work from the bottom up.”
The union, which has a record of supporting Democrats, gave its endorsement one day after a throng of Essex County Democrats crossed party lines to endorse Christie.
