Celgene offering awards to innovative nonprofits

Celgene Corp. is offering $100,000 awards to nonprofit organizations that can demonstrate successful innovation in two areas: hematology and oncology.

Winners in both categories will be announced Oct. 15, the Summit-based pharmaceutical company announced today.

Called the Innovation Impact Awards, the program aims to recognize achievements of U.S.-based nonprofits that benefit patients, health care providers and caregivers.

“One of Celgene’s goals with the Innovation Impact Awards is to ensure that selected programs have an opportunity to flourish and evolve,” said Joel Beetsch, vice president, patient advocacy at Celgene, in a statement. “That’s why we’re asking participants to share plans on how they plant to build on their success and take their programs to the next level.”

Celgene is now accepting applications, which will be evaluated by a panel of judges.

The company said submissions must demonstrate inspired innovation, a validated need, proven impact and measurable results, and have to show how it will build on its current success.

Applications are restricted to nonprofits with an interest in hematology, which studies the physiology of the blood, and oncology, the study of tumors. Individuals, medical institutions and research facilities will not be considered, nor will applications be accepted for pre-clinical, clinical or translational research programs, Celgene said.  

Each organization can submit only one entry.
