The Meadowlands Regional Chamber unveiled a website Thursday for business owners interested in planning on hosting or attending events related to the upcoming February Super Bowl, taking place in MetLife Stadium, in East Rutherford.
The Big Game Experience is an index resource that will be filled with information for professional event and meeting planners, and will also have a comprehensive calendar of Super Bowl-related events.
Ron Simoncini, of Axiom Communications, developed the website for the Meadowlands Liberty Convention and Visitors Bureau to give event planners from New York, New Jersey and the nation the ability to see the vendors and venues the region has to offer.
"It's one-stop shopping for information related to hosting events for the Super Bowl," he said. "There will be more than 300 NFL-sanctioned events, and who knows how many hundreds of unsanctioned events. If you're shopping for goods and services, you can get a prequalified list of people invested in the Super Bowl."
The site was created because, unlike other cities hosting the Super Bowl, New York and New Jersey are both hosts, so there is not one single convention authority to offer up this information.
"We have two cities competing for events," Simoncini said. "We want New Jersey to get its fair share."
While only a handful of venues and service providers are on the site now, hundreds more will be added in the coming months.
"This site will organize all local venue and vendor information for professional organizers, and seamlessly connect them with individuals looking to attend parties and events." Jim Kirkos, president of the Meadowlands Regional Chamber, said in a written statement.
Another element of the site is the calendar of events, which so far lists Super Bowl Media Day, the NFL's massive news conference, and a private gala hosted by the commissioner's office. Also listed is the official NFL Super Bowl Tailgate Party on game day. The three-hour pregame and two-hour postgame party in the grandstands of the Meadowlands Racetrack will include lavish food stations, top-shelf liquor and a major entertainment act.
Organizers will widely promote the site on May 22 at The Big Game Experience Conference & Expo. At the expo, which runs from noon to 11 p.m., event planners not only learn about the region's venues and vendors but also gain valuable insights from local experts, industry professionals and NFL representatives. It will include a trade show, a virtual site location tour, interaction with panelists and event specialists, and other networking opportunities. The day will start with presentations of premier event and performance spaces, hotels and restaurants. Opportunities will be addressed for nonprofits, civic organizations and communities to host downtown festivals, fundraisers and volunteer events. In the evening, a senior state official will address the crowd, and the Expo will culminate with an after-party featuring Comedy Central's Stephen Colbert.
