College of Saint Elizabeth picks first lay president

By ,

Helen J. Streubert, an administrator at a Texas university, has been appointed as the first lay president of the College of Saint Elizabeth in Morristown.

Currently. Streubert is vice president of academic affairs for Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio. She will be the college's seventh president and succeeds Sister Francis Raftery, who is stepping down June 30 after 38 years of service including 16 years as college president.

Streubert was selected after a nationwide search.

“We chose Dr. Streubert based on her strong credentials and abilities to continue the College of Saint Elizabeth’s 114-year-old tradition of academic excellence with a strong commitment to the development of leadership in a spirit of service and social responsibility for others,” said Sister Rosemary Moynihan, chair of the college's board of trustees.

"Sister Francis Raftery is leaving a legacy of growth and advancement that I plan to continue," said Streubert, who assumes her duties July 1. "Together with the college community, we will develop the next strategic plan to provide a strong road map to the future.”
