Williams-Sonoma inks warehouse lease in South Brunswick

Home goods retailer Williams-Sonoma will fill a new 750,000-square-foot industrial facility opening this summer in South Brunswick, the building's developer said Friday.

The Atlanta-based developer, IDI, announced the lease as it continues work on one of the largest projects in one of the state’s booming industrial markets. A news release said Williams-Sonoma, which is based in San Francisco, will use the space for warehousing, repair, assembly, storage and distribution of its consumer products.

The so-called Middlesex Center II will open off New Jersey Turnpike Exit 8A alongside another IDI facility, a 1.35 million-square-foot building also occupied by Williams-Sonoma, the news release said. Frank Petkunas, senior vice president and regional managing director for IDI’s Philadelphia market office, said in a statement that the new building “marked the resurgence of inventory building development in New Jersey,”

IDI also plans to start construction this year on a third component that will total 450,000 square feet, the news release said.

The exits 8A and 7A industrial submarkets were among New Jersey’s strongest performers in 2012, fueled by activity from e-commerce, retail and third-party logistics users. The uptick in interest has led developers like IDI to start speculative projects in recent months, including the facility now slated for occupancy by Williams-Sonoma.
