Jersey Central Power & Light Co. announced it's conducting a new electrical safety training program for emergency personnel, part of an initiative to upgrade such plans in the wake of Hurricane Sandy and prior storms.
The program includes safety training for police, fire, and emergency medical workers when responding to downed power lines and other emergencies involving electrical equipment.
JCP&L spokesman Ron Morano said the program was formed in January after input from customers, regulatory and emergency officials on how the company can better respond to violent storms. The cost of the program was not disclosed.
Morristown-based JCP&L serves about 1.1 million customers in 13 counties.
