Jersey City pharma company names former Pfizer chief as CEO

The board of directors of Optimer Pharmaceuticals, in Jersey City, today announced the appointment of its chairman, Henry McKinnell, as chief executive officer, and the beginning of a process to explore strategic alternatives.

According to a news announcement from Optimer, McKinnell worked at Pfizer Inc. from 1971 until his retirement in 2007, including serving as its chairman and CEO from 2001 to 2006. He replaces Pedro Lichtinger, who has served as Optimer president and CEO since May 2010, for the duration of the strategic review process.
The company offered no details on its strategic review process.
