The law firms McCarter & English, in Newark, and Lowenstein Sandler, of Roseland, announced they are jointly donating funds to create a one-year fellowship at the American Friends Service Committee for a law school graduate to work with immigrants detained at the Elizabeth Detention Center.

According to an announcement from the Essex County firms, the immigrant rights program of the AFSC addresses the need among immigrants for access to legal counsel to help them get fair treatment by government agencies, particularly in deportation proceedings.
