I thought I was the only one who has dreams about the NJBIZ Power 100 list.

But a business leader contacted me Monday to tell me about the “nightmare” he/she had about our Power 100 list on Sunday, the night before the 2013 list published.

The executive said I could share the dream on this blog as long as I didn’t identify anyone. The “nightmare” began with the name at the top of our Power 100 list, someone who would never be selected to be in that spot. Then the executive told me, “It gets worse.”

The scene changed to the St. Patrick’s Day parade in downtown Newark. All the people on the Power 100 list were preparing to march as a group. I was there, with a clipboard, yelling into a megaphone to get the 100 people in order by their rank on the list: “Number 46, get in line!”

If I had a psychology degree, I could tell you what it all means, but instead I googled and found dreammoods.com. That website’s take:

Parade: “…the parade symbolizes cycles, passage of time, or a special event in your life. Consider also the symbolism of whatever figures/animals/floats are in the parade. They may reflect a need for you to incorporate these attributes into your own character.”

Clipboard: “To see or use a clipboard in your dream suggests that you are under scrutiny. You feel that you are being judged or criticized for your choices and actions. Alternatively, the dream may mean that your opinions and views are valued by others.” (Or at least your dreams are valued as being blog-worthy.)

Power: “To dream that you have power indicates your growing confidence, high self-esteem and increasing skills. Alternatively, your dream of power may try to compensate for a waking situation where you felt powerless. To dream that you do not have any power refers to a waking situation in which you felt unable to do anything.”

I still don’t know what it means, except that I guess the NJBIZ Power 100 list is on the minds of some people in New Jersey. Rest assured, while I want NJBIZ to be top of mind with everyone, I really don’t want our lists or stories disrupting people’s sleep.
