Perhaps the only thing more "insaaaane!" than those rock-bottom prices was the complicated financial scheming that turned Crazy Eddie from darling of the electronics retailing world to bankruptcy and liquidation in the space of about three years, and left Antar fleeing for Israel before his eventual extradition to the States, where he eventually pleaded guilty to federal fraud charges. Once investors got wise to Antar's loose interpretation of the tax code, many pulled out and plenty filed suit, but efforts to recover money have been largely unsuccessful, though they are ongoing. While the original company was liquidated in 1989, various revivals have cropped up — including one by Antar himself — though none has captured the attention the original chain once did.
