From one state border to another, Virtua is expanding its health care footprint across the state. The Marlton-based hospital system announced Monday a partnership with a Ramsey ambulatory surgical center.

Ramapo Valley Surgical Center will join the extensive Virtua managed care network as part of the partnership, marking the seventh ambulatory care center to partner with Virtua, and the first in the northern part of the state.

Ramapo Valley is a multi-specialty facility, with services in ophthalmology, orthopedics, pain management and general surgery.

“Partnering with Ramapo Valley Surgical Center aligns well with Virtua’s strategic plan to prepare for an overall system of health care that decentralizes from hospital care to outpatient care,” said Richard P. Miller, president and CEO of Virtua, in prepared remarks.

Virtua is one of several hospital systems in the state looking to expand its geographic footprint and increase its grasp of the outpatient market through ambulatory care centers. Joseph A. Trunfio, president and CEO of Atlantic Health System, said hospital systems should focus on achieving nearly half of their revenue from outpatient services as better technology, lower costs and convenience drive patients away from inpatient services.
