Chief executive of Newark Beth Israel leaving for Cleveland
Dr. John A. Brennan, chief executive of Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and the Children's Hospital of New Jersey since 2007, has accepted the role of president and CEO of the MetroHealth System, based in Cleveland. He begins the new role Jan. 1.
Brennan has been instrumental in helping Barnabas Health establish a Medicare accountable-care organization in North Jersey, as well as forming a community-based organization — the Greater Newark Healthcare Coalition — that is working toward designation as a Medicaid ACO.
Brennan replaces Mark Moran, who has led the county-subsidized MetroHealth since 2008. According to an announcement from MetroHealth, the search for Moran's successor has taken nearly a year.
"I am thrilled by the opportunities at MetroHealth," said Brennan, in a MetroHealth press release. "The medical center is in a great place in its history, and I am privileged to continue the organization's long-standing mission."
MetroHealth is comprised of one medical center and many health clinics around the greater Cleveland area.
During Brennan’s tenure, the hospitals' "reputation for quality and excellence has expanded nationally. Cardiology and cardiac surgery, cancer care, renal services, community programs and partnerships and many other areas have been strengthened under his leadership,” said Barry H. Ostrowsky, president and CEO of Barnabas Health.
