St. Mary’s Hospital, in Passaic, announced this afternoon that Edward Condit had been selected to become the hospital’s president and CEO.

Condit replaces Michael Sniffen, who joined St. Mary’s in 2009, as Sniffen steps down to “address some personal issues,” according to the hospital’s announcement.

Condit has served as St. Mary’s executive vice president and chief operating officer, and presided over the recent capital project. He joined the hospital in January 2007.

“Mr. Condit’s proven skills as a leader make him an ideal choice for president and CEO of St. Mary’s Hospital,” said Sister Barbara Conroy, chair of the hospital’s board. “His experience at St. Mary’s will make for a seamless transition.”

Condit has also worked in administration at Liberty Healthcare in Jersey City, parent company of Jersey City Medical Center. He is a graduate of Montclair State University.
