The Somerset County Regional Center Partnership was given the green light by the State Planning Commission to coordinate state resources, incentives and strategic economic investment with planning efforts over two years.

With the state's approval, the regional center is now in a better position to receive capital investment and financial and technical incentives for planning implementation that is consistent with the state strategic plan, according to an announcement.

In a statement, Rose Evans, chair of the partnership, said the state's endorsement "allows us to continue those projects that are ongoing and establishes new goals that will serve the businesses and residents … of Bridgewater, Raritan and Somerville."

Evans said the center's designation shows the commission's support for the goals outlined in its action plan, which include achieving policy objectives in priority areas for economic growth and investment, reclaiming brownfields for development, assisting redevelopment in existing downtown business districts, fostering more effective mass transportation and revitalizing historic preservation programs.

Under the memorandum of understanding, the center will be re-established for an additional 10 years, following completion of the action plan.
