I cannot be the only person who, upon hearing about the fire racing through the Meadowlands on Wednesday, imagined Jon Hanson and Chris Christie were singing this while trundling spent matches and an empty can of gasoline back home through the swamp (to the tune, of course, of "We Didn't Start the Fire").
"Encap bankruptcy, corrupt sports authority
Great recession, big depression over at Colony.
Ugliest building in USA, Cabela's runs away
Atlantic City says no to Meadowlands casino.
Highways aren't wide enough, ski slope not up to snuff
Still in stupor when the Super Bowl comes to the state.
Money war with Triple Five over a stupid water slide
Devils leave, Nets go away, how will we get tourists to stay?
We wouldn't start a fire
Sure it would solve a crisis
But we wouldn't light it.
We didn't start this fire
But Revel better make it
Or else we'll immolate it."
(With apologies to Billy Joel, and anyone who has this stuck in his head the rest of the day.)
