Women in Banking event puts focus on leadership, mentoring

The New Jersey Bankers Association's second annual Women in Banking Conference will feature sessions on leadership, mentoring and other topics of interest to professional women, according to one of the program's organizers.

"The topics are around how to thrive in a changing economic environment and regulatory environment," said Margaret Lanning, senior regional credit officer at Wells Fargo Bank N.A. and a member of the New Jersey Bankers Association's board of directors.

Lanning said women in leadership and management roles at the state's banks and professional services firms, as well as from academia and professional groups, will lead panel discussions. This year's event has been built on the success of the association's inaugural women's leadership conference, in 2011.

"The program that we've developed this year has been a direct result of the feedback that we received from last year's participants, so it really is designed by woman," Lanning said.

Linda Verba, one of the highest-ranking women at TD Bank N.A., will be the morning keynote speaker; the executive vice president will give her perspective on surviving changes, Lanning said.

The closing speaker, Brigid Moynahan, founder and president of The Next Level Inc., will talk about developing alliances and taking the concept of leadership to the next level, Lanning said.

Organizers expect attendance to far exceed the 220 from last year's event, Lanning said

The event will be held April 3, at The Palace at Somerset Park, in the Somerset section of Franklin.
