Lessons learned from her father

By Christina Mazza

Murray Raphel with his daughter Caren Franzini in the living room of his Atlantic City home where she grew up.

Caren Franzini, CEO of the New Jersey Economic Development Authority, has learned many lessons from her father, Murray Raphel, which she's used to help her succeed in her career.

NJBIZ reporter Jared Kaltwasser and I conducted the interview at her parent's home in Atlantic City, where Franzini grew up.

In the video below Franzini discusses why her parents decided to keep their clothing store, Gordon's, in Atlantic City even when there was pressure from developers to move to the suburbs. The store eventually grew to serve as an anchor for the state's first urban pedestrian mall, Gordon's Alley.
