The educational arm of Lakewood-based Madison Commercial Real Estate Services, Madison Learning Center, will expand its offering of free continuing education seminars for commercial real estate professionals.
The expansion coincides with a recent state mandate requiring those in the industry to complete 12 hours of continuing education courses each time they apply for a two-year license renewal. The deadline to complete the courses during this licensing round is July 1, 2013.
"The range of our complementary courses has a value for audiences who need to meet different requirements for their continuing education," said Keren Peters-Atkinson, the chief marketing officer for Madison Commercial. "For example, only real estate attorneys would benefit from a seminar on property surveys — which we plan on holding next month — to meet New Jersey Bar Association requirements, but attorneys, CPAs, and investors could all benefit from our upcoming 1031 exchange course."
The learning center — founded in 2009 and led by Madison Commercial executives — began offering monthly breakfast seminars in New Jersey on Dec. 13 to cover up-to-date information on negotiating complex commercial real estate issues, from the municipal search process to building code violations.
According to the center's director of education, Lainie Goldberg, demand for each seminar has exceeded the ideal class size of 25, so they may be offered twice a month by March. The next seminar, set for Tuesday, will cover capitalizing on natural disasters and real estate tax deferral strategies.
