As the helicopter began to lift off the helipad I questioned my decision.
I'm not a fan of flying, that's why I was so hesitant when Anthony Catanoso president of Steel Pier Amusements in Atlantic City asked me and NJBIZ reporter Jared Kaltwasser to take a helicopter ride. He even offered me the seat to the left of the pilot, which doesn't have a door allowing for better photographic access.
Anthony promised me I would get spectacular aerial photos of the pier, so I reluctantly agreed.
Looking back I definitely don't have any regrets. It was a unique experience that served not only as a personal milestone, but also as a professional accomplishment. I was able to set aside my fears and make the best possible photos I could and got to see Atlantic City from a new and exciting perspective.
Plus, I can now say that I've ridden in a helicopter, and that's pretty cool.
Jared's article about Steel Pier will publish on Monday. Plus, there will be an audio slideshow on NJBIZ.com with commentary from Anthony Catanoso.
Until then, here is a photo slideshow of my aerial photos with video footage of the helicopter ride shot by Jared:
