By João-Pierre RuthHoneywell will help the university make energy-efficient upgrades to its campus heating plants. A new steam plant that uses wood chips for fuel will be built on the campus to replace an older steam plant that consumes more than 10,000 tons of coal annually.
The upgrades are expected to reduce electricity consumption on the campus by 6.2 million kilowatt hours annually. The improvements also are expected to cut carbon dioxide emissions by the campus 20,000 metric tons annually.
Upgrades at the university are expected to be finished by the end of 2012.
