Reyes Grocery Store and Sunny’s Supermarket , in Newark, were among the defendants named in litigation brought by tobacco company Philip Morris USA. The Richmond, Va.-based cigarette maker said Thursday it filed lawsuits against a total of 10 retailers in New Jersey and New York for alleged sales of counterfeit versions of Marlboro brand cigarettes.

Philip Morris said since May of this year, it has filed 27 lawsuits alleging sales of counterfeit cigarettes by retailers in New York and New Jersey.

Philip Morris alleges that in addition to selling products with bogus branding, the state and federal taxes were not properly paid on the cigarettes.
