Kamalesh K. Sirkar
The New Jersey Institute of Technology, in Newark, said Wednesday it will present a research prize and award to Kamalesh K. Sirkar, a native of Bridgewater and chemical engineering professor at the university. The award will be presented Wednesday afternoon by the NJIT board of overseers, which is made up of the business community and leadership from the university.

Sirkar will be awarded the NJIT Excellence in Research Prize and Medal for his work developing more efficient ways to desalinate brackish groundwater and seawater. The prize includes a $2,500 research award from the NJIT Foundation.

Sirkar uses a process called membrane separation to clean water. The award puts him in the running for the annual NJIT Medal, which comes with $10,000 from the foundation.
