Par Pharmaceutical Companies, Inc. (NYSE:PRX) said today it will pay Spectrum Pharmaceuticals, Inc., $20 million for more profits from a collaboration to sell a copycat migraine drug.

Under the revised deal, Par's profit share from sales of sumatriptan succinate injection, a generic version of GlaxoSmithKline's Imitrex Injection that treats migraines and cluster headaches, will rise from 38 percent to 95 percent.

Shares of Par, a generic drug maker headquartered in Woodcliff Lake, were up $0.17, or 1 percent, to $17.35 in morning trading.

Par said it expects to launch sumatriptan succinate injection in November. GlaxoSmithKline's Imitrex Injection patent expires in February 2009, according to Par.

Irvine, Calif.-based Spectrum settled a patent dispute with GlaxoSmithKline related to Imitrex Injection in November 2006, Par said.

Imitrex Injection has annual sales of about $220 million in the United States, according to IMS Health.
