Reiter started an anti-addiction program in 2005, but quit after a week and entered the Silver Hill Hospital, an upscale facility in New Canaan, Conn. He walked out of Silver Hill, too. “I went there and said, ‘Is this all we do? Talk about it?’” he says. “There has got to be a better way.”
He says he subsequently “white-knuckled” his way out of his addiction by going cold turkey and hasn’t turned back.
Reiter discovered Prometa on the Internet last year and immediately flew out to Los Angeles to meet Hythiam executives. He subsequently sampled the Prometa course and signed his licensing deal.
“Two worlds aligned,” says Sanjay Sabnani, Hythaim’s executive vice president of strategic development. He says Reiter “wanted a treatment program that had a strong medical component that could be delivered on an outpatient basis, and he was an entrepreneur who had seen the inefficiencies in the addiction treatment marketplace.”
