Description
WOMEN UNITED FOR CHANGE
Join local women, professionals, and community leaders from across northern New Jersey for an evening of networking and a discussion of the growing number of women and families in our communities who are unable to afford this state’s high cost of living, one emergency from falling into poverty.
Discussion Topic
According to a recently released United Way study, 769,900 of the state’s households are walking a financial tightrope, earning more than the federal poverty level but not enough to weather a crisis. We call this population ALICE, an acronym for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed.
With the recent crisis experienced in our New Jersey communities as a result of superstorm Sandy, it is even more evident that ALICE’s everyday struggles reach beyond personal trials to impact the wider community.
Special Guest Speakers
Stacey Stewart, newly appointed U.S. President, United Way Worldwide
Kate Tomlinson, Publisher/Editor in Chief, NJ Monthly
