The Internet is becoming the first
stop for consumers and medical
professionals seeking more information
about health care.
>>>To help companies reach those
online surfers, Peter H. Nalen and
Kristin Marvin Keller co-founded
Compass Healthcare Communication,
an online marketing agency serving
the pharmaceutical and medicaldevice
industries.
>>>Nalen and Keller had more than 35
years of experience in consumer and
pharmaceutical marketing when they
launched Compass in 2003. But, they
had to prove themselves all over again.
>>>“In the first year, the No. 1 hardship
was establishing ourselves without
any history, presenting our services
to clients without any examples
we had executed at Compass,” says
Nalen, president and chief executive
officer. “As we won new clients, the
biggest hardship we encountered,
and still have to this day, is finding,
hiring and training the people to
help us run our business.”

>>>Compass may have started small.
But, by 2005, the company topped $1
million in sales. It expects growth to
continue as more and more consumers
and medical professionals go
online for health information.
>>>In addition to their leadership
roles at Compass, Nalen and Keller
are board members of WomenSpace,
a nonprofit agency that aids women
in crisis. Nalen also chairs the David
Nalen Foundation, formed in memory
of his older brother, who lost a
long battle with cancer.
