For Altara, a key ingredient in
growth has been teamwork.
>>>Since its founding in 1996, the
software solutions provider has
counted on the commitment and
flexibility of its employees, who work
together to ensure their customers
get the products they want and need.
>>>“Customers buy from people
they trust and, from the start, we
were able to ensure that we had that
connection,” says Helene Cole,
Altara’s chief executive officer.
>>>To aid growth, Altara decided to
specialize in specific industries—
manufacturing, distribution and
professional services—and get to
know them from top to bottom. The
company also hired people who were
experienced in those industries.
>>>The team’s efforts have yielded a
bumper crop of recognition from
Microsoft, whose products Altara
resells as a retailer. Altara has been
named seven times to the Microsoft
Business Solutions Inner Circle,
which recognizes Microsoft partners
in the top echelon of sales.
>>>Altara also has been working
with Microsoft to develop and test
new products.

That willingness to experiment
should come as no surprise. Altara
has always been willing to take its
share of risks, Cole says. “Managed
risk is an important part of our strategy.
If we always went the safe route,
we would not be where we are today.”
>>>The company’s charitable activities
include providing discounted
software to nonprofits, including the
Central Jersey Blood Center and the
Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation.
