As 2003 drew to a close, Advanced
Health Media could feel the
ground shifting.
>>>Its customers in the pharmaceutical
industry were consolidating and
facing new regulatory challenges,
sparking changes in planning and
delays in budgeting.
>>>The changes created hard decisions
for Advanced Health, a marketing
services company founded in 1999
to serve the pharmaceutical industry.
The company laid off 35 people.
>>>But, Advanced Health didn’t give
in. It began planning for the future
and figuring out from where its
growth would come.
>>>“This year was critical in our life
cycle and we have built on the experience
and learning from that year,”
says Kevin McMurtry, chief executive
officer of the company, which helps
drug companies market to doctors
and other health professionals.
>>>After 2003, the company began
to focus on its speaker and meeting
logistics services and the promotional
aspects of medical education.

The efforts paid off. Although
Advanced Health’s staff had dipped
below 100, it has since rebounded to
nearly 250. The company also landed
new business, including the meeting
logistics account for one of the top
three drug makers.
>>>Today, Advanced Health focuses
on thee core services: meetings logistics,
market research and compliance
management.
>>>The company also focuses on its
employees through investments in
their growth and welfare, including
expanded benefits, new career paths
and the hiring of a director for learning
and development.
